Vietnam health ministry urges hospitals to prepare COVID-19 quarantine facilities
The Department of Medical Service Administration under the Ministry of Health has issued an urgent directive urging hospitals and institutes under the ministry, as well as local health departments to promptly outline immediate measures to strengthen COVID-19 prevention and control, including the preparation for quarantine facilities.
The move came in response to the recent uptick in global COVID-19 cases and sporadic infections across Vietnam.
Since the start of 2025, the country has detected 148 COVID-19 cases in 27 cities and provinces.
Hospitals were asked to ensure readiness in terms of infrastructure, isolation areas, medical equipment, and supplies to facilitate the admission, quarantine, diagnosis, and treatment of COVID-19 patients in a bid to ensure proper medical care and limit the spread of the virus.
Healthcare facilities were also required to reinforce infection prevention protocols, especially respiratory transmission controls, to minimize the risk of in-hospital outbreaks.
Additional safety measures were recommended for vulnerable patient groups, including pregnant women, individuals with chronic illnesses, the elderly, and those in intensive care, cardiology, dialysis, and surgical units.
In addition, hospitals were directed to improve hygiene and optimize the layout of departments to suit pandemic conditions.
These efforts aim to safeguard both patients and healthcare workers as Vietnam remains vigilant amid the evolving COVID-19 landscape.
