G-7 Ministers Demand Ceasefire in Sudan

   New York, April 15 (Jiji Press)--The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven major democracies Tuesday demanded a ceasefire in civil war-torn Sudan.
   "We call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire," the G-7 ministers said in a statement to mark the second anniversary of the conflict between the official Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in the African country.
   The ministers said they "unequivocally denounce the ongoing conflict, atrocities and grave human rights violations and abuses."
   "The people of Sudan, especially women and children, are enduring the world's largest humanitarian and displacement crises, and continued atrocities, including widespread conflict-related sexual violence, ethnically motivated attacks and reprisal killings," the ministers said. "These must end immediately."
