Japan Core Machinery Orders Up 4.3 Pct in Feb.

   Tokyo, April 16 (Jiji Press)--Japan's seasonally adjusted core machinery orders in February grew 4.3 pct from the previous month, the first increase in three months, the Cabinet Office said Wednesday.
   The core orders, which exclude orders for ships and machines used by power utilities, a leading indicator of corporate capital investment, totaled 894.7 billion yen.
   The growth was far stronger than the median forecast of a 0.4 pct rise in a Jiji Press survey of 16 economic research institutes.
   The Cabinet Office kept its basic assessment unchanged, saying that machinery orders are showing signs of picking up.
   Machinery orders from manufacturers gained 3.0 pct to 425.4 billion yen, the first rise in three months.
