Japan Producer Prices Up 3.2 Pct in May

   Tokyo, June 11 (Jiji Press)--Japan's producer price index in May increased 3.2 pct from a year earlier, up for the 51st consecutive month, driven by soaring rice prices, Bank of Japan data showed Wednesday.
   The index, which indicates the cost of goods traded between businesses, rose to 126.3 against the 2020 base of 100, although the growth rate was slower than the previous month's 4.1 pct.
   Among the 515 items surveyed, 364 saw price increases while 130 logged falls.
   By category, prices jumped 42.8 pct for agricultural, forestry and fishery products, including eggs, whose prices increased following bird flu outbreaks.
   The central bank said it has not yet seen any direct impact of the releases of government-stockpiled rice on producer prices.
