Ishiba Vows to Overcome Rising Inflation

   Tokyo, June 11 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba pledged to address rising inflation, during a parliamentary debate with leaders of opposition parties Wednesday.
   "We'll overcome higher prices at any cost," Ishiba said in response to a question by Yoshihiko Noda, leader of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, about the government's inflation measures.
   Ishiba showed reluctance to lower the consumption tax rate as sought by opposition parties.
   He also took a cautious stance about lowering the gasoline tax, saying that those who propose doing so "need to present alternative financial resources."
   On Japan-U.S. tariff talks, the prime minister said, "We will not choose to sacrifice agriculture in exchange for protecting automobiles."
