MANILA, Philippines — The United States will provide technical assistance to enable the construction of the Subic-Clark-Manila-Batangas (SCMB) Railway. The Philippine government seeks to build more regional trains to improve connectivity.

In a statement on Friday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said it had inked an agreement with the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) for this initiative.

The USTDA will help in crafting the transport model development, port-rail integration study and legal and institutional framework analysis, among others.

The agency helps American companies create jobs through the export of US goods and services to critical infrastructure projects in emerging economies.

"As a freight cargo railway, the SCMB Railway is seen to solve port traffic and congestion in Manila Port, while ensuring the timely movement of products to and from adjacent major transport hubs," Transport Secretary Vince Dizon said.

This 26.9-kilometer project will connect Subic Port to Clark International Airport, Port of Manila and Port of Batangas.
