Navy Chief Adm Jirapol Wongwit leads marine operations in Trat to defend Thailand’s maritime borders after clashes with Cambodia.

Navy Commander-in-Chief Adm Jirapol Wongwit travelled to Trat on Thursday afternoon to personally oversee an operation to defend Thailand’s maritime territories.

Jirapol was scheduled to arrive at the naval base in Trat at 2:30 pm to command the naval defence operations in Trat and Chanthaburi against Cambodia.

The marine operations were planned as part of the defence efforts after Cambodian troops opened fire on Thailand along the Surin border.

Meanwhile, the Chanthaburi and Trat border defence command issued an order on Thursday to close all border crossings in Trat and Chanthaburi.

The affected crossings included Ban Laem and Ban Phakkard in Chanthaburi, Ban Hard Lek in Trat, and temporary checkpoints at Ban Sub Tari and Ban Suan Somi in Chanthaburi, and Ban Mamuang in Trat.
