PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra vows to tighten security in the deep South after fatal insurgent attacks in Narathiwat. She plans to increase night-shift security forces and ensure full compensation for victims' families.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said on Sunday that security forces might be increased in the deep South following fatal insurgent attacks on Saturday night.

Speaking to reporters upon her return from a trip to Germany from 3 to 8 March, the prime minister said that night-shift security forces should be reinforced. However, she added that she would first need to consult with the relevant security agencies.

“The number of security forces will definitely have to be increased,” Paetongtarn stated.

She explained that such attacks negatively impact public morale, making it essential to tighten security. On Saturday night, three insurgent attacks were carried out in Narathiwat. Initial reports indicated that two volunteer defence officers had been killed. However, Paetongtarn later received an update from security agencies while onboard her flight to Suvarnabhumi International Airport, confirming that the death toll had risen to three.

The prime minister assured that the families of those killed or injured would receive full compensation from the government. She also expressed her condolences to the families of the victims.
